An afternoon of yoga with a difference has been organised for Newtownabbey, thanks to the Woodland Trust.
The event takes place on Saturday, June 15 and provides people with a great opportunity to exercise in the natural world and enjoy this perfect antidote to the pressures of modern life.
Stuart Dainton, head of innovation, at the Woodland Trust said scientific studies have proven that simply spending time in parks or woodland can reduce stress and improve wellbeing.
“Furthermore, exercising in a green space can help reduce the risks of poor mental health. Exercising outdoors is a natural way to help your health, and medical advice suggests an outside boost of vitamin D can help to reduce tiredness and improve the immune system,” he said.
The afternoon will begin with a mindfulness walk up Carnmoney Hill, taking time to think, breathe and enjoy the stunning views of Belfast and the natural environment.
Once at the top, it’s time to zen out and enjoy a relaxing outdoor yoga session followed by light refreshments. The session will be adapted to suit all levels of yoga practice so no previous yoga experience is necessary.
Michelle McCaughtry, People Engagement Co-ordinator at the Woodland Trust said yoga is not just about connecting to yourself, but interacting with your immediate environment.
“So, while it may be convenient to practise at your local studio, doing yoga outdoors is a great way to be at one with Mother Nature while admiring the beautiful views of Belfast,” she added.
The event will take place from 1.30pm at Rathfern Social Activity Centre, only a 15 minute drive from Belfast City Centre.
Tickets are priced at £20 and all places must be booked in advance via https://woodlandtrusttickets.
