Two cars have been stolen in Belfast, with thieves taking the keys.
A set of car keys was taken and a red Renault Megane Scenic stolen in south Belfast.
It is believed the car, with a group of young people inside, was driven toward Sunnyside Street.
This is one of two burglaries, one in south Belfast and one in east Belfast, which may be linked. Both were reported on Tuesday evening (8 October).
Detective Sergeant Fairfield said police received a report that entry had been gained to a house in Ava Crescent, in south Belfast, at around 9pm.
“A short time later, at around 9.30pm, we received a similar report. This time, a house in the Haddington Gardens area of east Belfast had been entered, car keys taken, and a white Volkswagen Polo reported stolen.
“The red Renault Megane, previously stolen from Ava Crescent, was reportedly spotted at the scene of the Haddington Gardens incident. The same car was later found on fire in west Belfast,” said Detective Sergeant Fairfield.
“We are appealing to anyone with information, or who may have witnessed any suspicious activity, to contact us on 101 quoting reference number 1881 of 08/10/19 in respect of the Ava Crescent incident. Please quote reference 1919 of 08/10/19 with regard to Haddington Gardens.
“We’re also keen to encourage everyone to ensure all property – houses, garages and vehicles – are secured. Get into the routine of locking all doors and windows. And keep car keys, and indeed any valuables, out of sight. For advice on home security, please contact your local crime prevention officer on 101,” added Detective Sergeant Fairfield.
