The ATM at the Castle Mall in Antrim has had a card rapping device fixed to it.
Police received a report from an engineer servicing the ATM.
They say, worryingly, the device is extremely hard to detect and was only spotted by the engineer who happened to be servicing the machine.
Police say it’s designed to ‘trap’ the user’s card in the reader when the ATM returns it after a transaction. The ATM user may think the card has simply been taken in by the machine.
Police say if the ATM appears to take your card, remain beside it and phone your bank to cancel the card.
