Ballymoney man conned out of £950 by internet fraudsters

Just days after police issued an appeal to people to be wary of scams, a Ballymoney man has been conned out of almost £1,000.

He was contacted by phone by a person purporting to be from BT Support.

The security of the man’s BT account was discussed and he was asked to download an app to help secure his account – Team Viewer Quick Support.

Once the app was installed, £950 was removed straight away from his bank account by a fraudster.

Police are warning people to be vigilant and to avoid being a victim of scams.

“Please folks be careful who contacts you regarding banking, domestic service accounts or your personal details in general. Don’t be the next victim,” said a police spokesperson.
