A Downing Street spokesperson said the PM was admitted “on the advice of his doctor.”
Coronavirus infects the lungs and the two main symptoms are a fever and a dry cough, which can create breathing problems.
The cough is a new, continuous cough. This means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or having three or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (and if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual).

And Scotland’s chief medical officer has resigned after making two trips to her second home during the lockdown.
Dr Catherine Calderwood, who is originally from Northern Ireland, said she was sorry for going against her own advice, and initially said she planned to continue in the role.
Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon backed Dr Calderwood.
However, Dr Calderwood released a statement later yesterday saying she had quit the post.
