Children have been running into on-coming traffic at Hanover Place in Coleraine, according to a video that is being shared on Facebook.
Now police are asking parents to be aware of where their children are in the evenings. And they’re asking parents that if they identify their children in the video, to speak to them about the dangers of this stunt.
“Running in front of cars is dangerous – it’s more dangerous doing so when it’s dark and you’re wearing a dark tracksuit. Add in that it was a tractor towing machinery you ran in front of, it’s a potentially lethal combination. Just don’t do it,” said a police spokesperson.
The spokesperson has a message for parents in the area.
“Parents, where are your kids in the evening? That last thing you want is me coming to your door to tell your child has been hit by a car. So please speak to your kids about how dangerous this is, and if you see it’s your children in the video, speak with us, we can help explain the danger they are putting themselves in,” added the spokesperson.
And police are asking anyone who witnesses children running in front of cars, to contact them while it’s happening.
