Re-surfacing of the Collin Road in Ballyclare is to begin on Monday (January 7).
The work will be completed in three stages.
The first stage extends approximately 1.9km from Braepark Road to Carnlea Road while the second stage involves a 1.7km stretch from Carnlea Road to the Sawmill Road.
To facilitate this work, the road will be closed daily from 7am to 7pm starting on Monday and running until Friday, February 1.
The final phase will take place at the Five Corners junction when a full road closure will be required (including Sawmill Road, Trenchhill Road and Springvale Road) from 7am on Monday, February 4 until 7pm on Friday, February 22.
Diversions will be via Doagh village. Local diversions will be also be in place around Ballyeaston village. All diversionary routes will be clearly signposted and local access for residents will be maintained at all times during the works.
Work is expected to be completed by February 22, however this will be dependent on the progress of the scheme and on favourable weather conditions.
Councillor for the area, Jordan Greer, welcomed the announcement.
“As a local resident of this area I am very glad to see this going ahead. Many of us in the area have been lobbying for a major re-surfacing scheme for some time. The road has been in a poor condition for a number of years and since last winter has deteriorated badly. Thankfully this major investment will greatly improve this busy section of road,” he said.
