Death of runner in Rostrevor ‘not suspicious’

The death of a runner near Rostrevor Forest is not being treated as suspicious, police have said.

The man was found at Newtown Road on Thursday.


Seventeen members of Mourne Mountain Rescue, PSNI and police air support joined the search operation for the missing man.

Mourne Mountain Rescue Team said its members were alerted just after midday and the operation was stood down at 5.30pm.

A post mortem is due to be carried out.

In a post on social media, the Mourne Mountain Rescue Team said their thoughts and prayers are with family, friends and all involved.

A PSNI spokesperson said police attended the scene of the sudden death of a man in the Newtown Road area of Rostrevor on Thursday (December 27).

“A post mortem examination will be carried out in due course, however, the death is not being treated as suspicious at this time,” added the spokesperson,
