A dog is recovering after having to be stretchered off Slieve Donard in the Mourne Mountains.
The Good Samaritans from the Mourne Mountain Rescue Team came to the assistance of the owner yesterday morning just after 10am when the dog became unwell and was unable to continue the descent of Slieve Donard.
The dog had completed the walk in the past, but appeared unable to continue and his owner was unable to carry him unaided.
The Mourne Mountain Rescue team of five responded and met the dog and his owner on the track. With the help of another walker, they managed to get him well down the Glen River track.
The dog was carried by stretcher to the rescue team’s vehicle, and taken back to his owner’s car.
The Mourne Mountain Rescue team says the dog is showing signs of recovering well.
