The firefighters who last night fought to save blazing homes in Ballyduff have been praised for their heroism.
Six houses were extensively damaged in the fire at Ballyduff Gardens. Police are treating the blaze as deliberate.
Police say an oil tank was set on fire just before 6pm.
Fifty firefighters were dispatched to the Ballyduff estate. One man was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.
“Thankfully on this occasion the swift response from firefighters has prevented any serious injury, loss of life or further fire spread to adjacent properties,” the Fire Service said in a statement.
The Valley Leisure Centre was opened to assist those families affected.

Detectives investigating the cause of a major fire in the Ballyfore Road, Newtownabbey this evening appeal for anyone who saw suspicious activity in the area between 5-6pm today to get in touch with police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
