An appeal has been made on BBC’s Crimewatch Roadshow Live programme in relation to the murder of Carrickfergus man Glenn Quinn.
A £10,000 reward is being offered by Crimestoppers for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for Glenn’s murder.
The 47-year-old was brutally murdered in his Carrickfergus home on 4 January this year.
A gang broke into his apartment in the Woodburn area and launched a sustained and violent attack upon him.
Glenn suffered horrific injuries, including around 50 fractures to both sides of his ribs, during the attack when the cold blooded killers beat him with blunt instruments and simply left him to die.
The Senior Officer from the PSNI’s Major Investigation Team investigating the murder of Glenn Quinn has made an appeal on BBC’s Crimewatch Roadshow Live.
Detective Chief Inspector Darren McCartney said Glenn was well-known throughout Carrickfergus and had no known enemies.
“He was a good and kind man and did not deserve to die the way he did. We know that Glenn was previously assaulted outside his home on 29 December and while he wasn’t badly injured, he was left frightened by this attack,” he said.
Days later Glenn, who had a terminal blood disorder was found dead in his Ashleigh Park home.
“We are working to see if there’s any link between this earlier attack and Glenn’s murder and I would like to hear from anyone who saw him in the time between Christmas and when he was found dead in his home on Saturday, 4 January. Did he talk about the attack to you or his concerns? Or perhaps you know the motive for his death or who is responsible,” said Detective Chief Inspector Darren McCartney.
Glenn drove to the shops on Woodburn Road at around 2pm on Thursday, January 2 .
“We need to hear from anyone who saw him or spoke to him after this.
“I hope that by making today’s appeal on Crimewatch, along with the £10,000 reward offered by independent charity Crimestoppers for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for Glenn’s murder, that people in the area will be encouraged to do the right thing and bring information forward. Please be reassured that Crimestoppers is 100 percent anonymous. I will never know your identity.
“I believe the answer to Glenn’s death lies in the local community. We know there are people living in Carrickfergus and the surrounding areas who know what happened to Glenn. We need them to come forward, now is the right time to come and talk to us.
“We can put measures in place to protect you from any potential risk that is identified. It is clear that those responsible doesn’t represent the Carrickfergus community, as there is widespread shock and revulsion about this senseless killing. Everyone has the right to feel safe at home and we need to bring those responsible to justice,” he added.
“Glenn’s heartbroken family deserve answers and deserve to see these barbaric killers put behind bars. Please, search your conscience and take steps to stop this happening to another family by phoning police on 101 with information or contacting Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
In a statement, Glenn’s family said they are absolutely devastated by Glenn’s senseless murder.
“No one should ever have to lose a loved one in such a cruel way. Glenn was a good and kind man, he loved his family and had so many good friends, he would have helped anyone out. He was just a Carrick man through and through. Glenn should not have had to die in pain, alone on the floor.
“We would appeal to anyone who may hold any information relating to Glenn’s murder to search their hearts and come forward to speak to police or contact Crimestoppers. Pass on what you know and help us removed these murderers from our streets before someone else gets hurt.
“Please help us get justice for Glenn and make sure this nightmare doesn’t happen to any other family,” added the family statement.
