A suspected gun has been found at waste grounds at Ross Road in west Belfast.
Police say it was discovered on Monday (October 29)- close to where children play. Details have just been released.
The firearm has since been taken aware for further forensic examinations.
Detective Sergeant Doherty said this is another firearm taken off the streets of Belfast which could have been used in crime.
“The worrying thing is the manner in which this firearm was found. This is a residential area where many families live many with small children,” said the Detective Sergeant.
Enquiries are continuing and police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed anything suspicious in the area to contact detectives on 101, quoting reference number 560 29/10/18.
