Helplines for ‘most depressing day of the year’

Today is officially the ‘most depressing day of the year’.

Every year, the third Monday of January is called ‘Blue Monday’ – the day when we are miserable, cold and still paying off Christmas.

This year, it’s still cold and dark outside and we are in the middle of a pandemic.

With that in mind, here are some helpline numbers:

Samaritans – To talk to someone, you can contact Samaritans 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. You can call 116 123 (free from any phone).

Childline – ring 0800 1111 or visit http://www.childline.org.uk/ 24/7 – 365 days a year. ChildLine is the UK’s free, 24-hour helpline for children and young people.

Lifeline – phone 0808 808 8000. Visit the website http://www.lifelinehelpline.info/. 24/7 365 days a year. Lifeline is the regional suicide prevention helpline service for people who are in distress or despair.
