A man who murdered his former partner at a laundrette in Portstewart, has died in hospital.
Fred McClenaghan, who was 57, was given a 13-year sentence last year for the murder of Marion Millican.
He is believed to have died of natural causes.
In September last year, McClenaghan pleaded guilty to Mrs Millican’s murder.
McClenaghan shot Marion Millican in the chest at point blank range on March 11, 2011.
McClenaghan who was from Broad Street in Magherafelt, was sentenced at Belfast Crown Court. Mr Justice Colton told McClenaghan that would serve a minimum of 13 years in prison before he would be considered eligible for release. At the time of the court case, the judge spoke of the devastating impact that Mrs Millican’s murder had on her family.
Mrs Millican began a relationship with McClenaghan at the beginning of 2010, but by December, she had ended it, as McClenaghan had been violent toward her on several occasions.
On the afternoon of Friday March 11, 2011, McClenaghan entered the laundrette on Portstewart’s promenade.
Mrs Millican was pronounced dead at the scene after being found face down in a pool of blood.
Around an hour after the murder, McClenaghan is said to have contacted a woman in Kilrea and told her that he had shot a woman.
