A Magherafelt solicitor has initiated legal action challenging the Department of Health’s announcement that parental consent will not be required to administer the COVID-19 vaccine to children aged 12 to 15.
Stephen Atherton, of John J McNally and Co Solicitors, said he had received instructions from a parent of a child in the age group and that formal pre-action legal correspondence has now been served on the Department of Health.
“It is quite simply unlawful, unethical and immoral for the Dept of Health to direct that a 12-year-old child would be competent to provide informed consent to this vaccination in circumstances where the UK Government’s own scientific and medical advisors have provided conflicting advice in recent days,” the company said in a statement.
I can confirm that this morning I received instructions from a parent of a child within the affected age range and that formal pre-action legal correspondence has now been served on the Department of Health.
