A man in his 30s suffered head and body injuries after a number of masked men forced their way into a house in Larne and assaulted him what are believed to have been pick axe handles and a sledgehammer.
The incident happened at a house in Wellington Green at around 5am this morning (Wednesday 24 April).
A woman, also aged in her 30s, was assaulted during the incident but did not sustain any injuries. A young child who was in the property at the time was not injured.
Police investigating a fire at a field in the School Hill area of Larne this morning at around 8:40am are investigating a possible link between the aggravated burglary and the fire.
Detectives are appealing for information and witnesses following the report of the aggravated burglary.
Detective Sergeant Robinson is appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone who has any information about the incident to contact detectives in Larne on 101, quoting reference 157 24/04/19.
