A 20-year-old man was injured after being set upon by a gang armed with hammers in Ballymena last night.
The gang attacked the victim with the hammers causing head, face and ankle injuries. The men also stole cash and a mobile phone before making off.
Detectives are investigating the attack which occurred last night (Thursday, May 30) at the pedestrian underpass between Moat Road and Crebilly Road at around 11.20pm.
Detective Sergeant Robinson said the injured man was taken to hospital where he remains this morning undergoing treatment for his injuries.
“An investigation is now underway and I am appealing for anyone with information to please get in touch with police by calling 101, quoting reference 129 30/05/19,” added the Detective.
