A man has been injured after being hit on the head by three masked men armed with a hatchet during an armed robbery in Ballymena.
The men entered the house in Pillar Brae Road through a window. The incident happened shortly before midnight. A sum of money was stolen.
The masked men were armed with a suspected gun, a hatchet and a crowbar.
Detectives in Ballymena are now appealing for information following the incident which happened last night (Monday).
Detective Sergeant Miller said all three men were armed, one with a suspected firearm, another man with a crowbar and the third man, with a hatchet.
“A male occupant inside the house was struck on the head, sustaining minor injuries. He was left badly shaken as a result of the incident.
“A sum of money was taken as well as a gold chain pulled from the male occupant during the incident,” said the Detective Sergeant.
The men made off on foot from the property. They were wearing dark coats, jeans and balaclavas.
“Enquiries are continuing and we are appealing to anyone with any information to contact police on 101 quoting reference number 1507 17/9/18. Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime,” added the Detective Sergeant.
