A Newtownabbey teenager who suffered serious injuries and ended up in intensive care while visiting her sister in the USA has left hospital.
Karmen Curley who is 18 suffered a brain injury after falling off an electrical scooter in Los Angeles.
Her sister Sian, who has been studying at a US university, has been desperately trying to raise funds to pay the estimated $150,000 medical costs as Karmen did not have travel insurance. Sian said that as Karmen did not take out the insurance before her trip of a lifetime, her treatment has been costing around $15,000 per day due to the seriousness of her injuries.
Sian said she thought her sister was dead when she saw her lying on the street in a pool of her own blood.

Doctors have confirmed that Karmen can now have the rest of her treatment/surgery back home, but Sian is still trying to raise the necessary cash to pay off the bills. Their mother passed away last year and the family is still paying off funeral costs.
