Don’t be a selfish parent – that’s the message from police to parents this week in relation to incidents of incorrect parking around schools.
Police say ‘no stopping’ zig zags and ‘no stopping’ signs are in place around school gates so ensure that all children can arrive and leave safely.
“Parking in a no stopping area right by the gate may be a convenient way to keep your child dry but what about everyone else?” said a police spokesperson.
“I’m just picking up the wee man/woman is not an acceptable response to our officers when they are asking you to move on,” added the spokesperson.
And they’re asking parents to be considerate and remember the three Ps – Parents Parking Properly, especially with the wet weather this week.
“Nobody wants to get soaked, but the clear zone allows everyone good visibility to cross the road safely. Don’t be the selfish parent! Consideration is key,” added the spokesperson.
Meanwhile, a member of the public was hit by a moving vehicle on the road between Carnlough and Glenarm last Saturday.
The incident happened between 3am and 4am.
This person was helped home by two men and police wish to identify them to see if they have any information on the vehicle involved.
