A security alert near Enniskillen PSNI station this morning (Monday) which unearthed a piece of historic ammunition has ended.
Nearby flats and a park were evacuated during the security alert.
The scene has since been cleared and residents have been allowed back to their homes.
It’s believed the ammunition may have been used during either of the World Wars.
“During building work in the vicinity of the station earlier today, what was believed to be a historic piece of munition, possibly from WWI or WWII, was discovered.
“A security operation was put in place, with nearby flats and a local park evacuated, and ATO were tasked.
“We can confirm what had been unearthed was part of old munition, that posed no danger to the public,” said Chief Inspector Graham Dodds.
He said a number of premises which also had to close, have re-opened and the cordon on Lough Erne has also been lifted.
And the Chief Inspector said he wanted to extend his thanks to everyone for their patience.
“We want to thank everyone who was affected by the operation for their patience as we worked to make the scene safe,” he added.
