Security waiting time at George Best Belfast City Airport is six minutes

A new security search system at George Best Belfast City Airport has slashed average passenger waiting time to six minutes.

The security search area has been completely refurbished and new lanes can now process up to six passengers at a time.

It’s the result of a £1.5 million investment.

New electronic boarding pass gates can now deal with multiple passengers and new scanning equipment has seen queues at peak times disappear.

Mark Beattie, Operations Director at Belfast City Airport said the new security search system has to date received hugely positive feedback from passengers.

“Using the latest technology, we’ve automated much of the security process. Over the past number of weeks, we’ve been monitoring passenger flows. We’re confident six minutes is the average time it should take to pass through the new security system,” he said.

The investment is part of £15 million infrastructure investment which includes an upgrade of the departure lounge. Additionally, customer seating has already more than doubled.

The work will be fully completed by November.
