Seventeen puppies were found hidden underneath a lorry carrying livestock at Larne port.
It’s believed the puppies were being transported to Scotland.
Police have also praised the actions of Mid and East Antrim’s Animal Welfare Office which led to the rescue of the puppies.
And the ‘tail’ ends well as they have all found loving families in time for Christmas thanks to Mid Antrim Animal Sanctuary, Almost Home and the USPCA.
“It seems Cruella de Vil is still out there and somehow got an HGV license as it is thought they were being smuggled over to Scotland,” said PSNI spokesperson.
Police are reinforcing the message – A dog is for life not just for Christmas.
“While we are all filled with puppy love looking at these wee faces, It’s important to remember that animals need care and attention,” added the spokesperson.
