The crowds were out in force on Thursday (November 1) for another successful ‘Discount Day’ in Ballymena.
The third annual ‘Discount Day’, formerly known as ‘Church Street Discount Day’, is organised by Ballymena Business Improvement District (BID) and has got bigger and better each year.
Running from 9am to 9pm, Discount Day saw the majority of independent and high street retailers offering shoppers special promotions and discounts throughout the day.
Alison Moore, Ballymena BID Manager said it’s great to see the shops in the town thriving.
“There was a fantastic atmosphere throughout the town when we met with shoppers during our walk around with Councillor Lindsay Millar, the Mayor of Mid and East Antrim Borough Council.
“We were delighted to welcome many new and returning visitors to the town centre, especially the Moira Friendship Group who, once again, took a bus trip down to enjoy the day. It’s great to see many people coming from outside the area to see our fantastic selection of independent and high street stores, not to mention our delicious restaurants and lively bars,” she said.
Shoppers were treated to some on street entertainment as the Cool FM Roadshow, hosted by Pete Snodden, drove into town and a lucky selection of shoppers went home with some brilliant prizes that were donated from businesses within the BID area.
Alison added: “I’d like to personally thank all the traders in the town who donated prizes to the roadshow giveaway and to all those who put on excellent special offers and discounts on the day. We run many events throughout the year to increase footfall to the town centre, but we are always extremely well supported by the local businesses who continue to donate prizes and make our visitors feel welcome. Their participation in Discount Day is the reason people travel to Ballymena and is a big factor in the success of the day.”
Local band, Picture the Sound, performed for the evening crowds at the Harmony Hub.
Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Councillor Lindsay Millar said there was a brilliant atmosphere throughout the town, as well as in the stores.
“I met many people on my walk around who came from all across the region, which reinforces the fact that Ballymena is a premier shopping destination in Northern Ireland. Once again, it was another fantastic shopping day out for all. Well done to all involved,” she added.
