Stained glass windows were smashed in what police say was an ‘appalling incident’ at St Paul’s Church on the Falls Road at the weekend.
Drugs paraphernalia was also located inside the church and items have been seized for forensic analysis.
The incident occurred on Saturday (March 23) just before 2am.
Police say the suspect gained access to the church grounds via Cavendish Street, and was carrying a large black bin liner and small light coloured shopping bag.
The suspect then proceeded to try to gain entry to the building via windows and doors before smashing stained glass windows on the door at the side chapel and entering.
“The suspect appears to have been of slim build, and was wearing a dark hooded top, a bobble hat underneath, dark track bottoms and dark trainers,” said a police spokesperson.
The incident has been strongly condemned.
“This act of vandalism is both disgusting and disrespectful. If you can assist us in any way in identifying the suspect involved in this incident, please contact Woodbourne Police by calling 101 and quoting serial 246 of 23/03/19,” added a police spokesperson.
