Police in East Antrim rescued a suicidal man from the end of the pier in Carrickfergus last night.
They attended calls from two separate suicidal men, both within half an hour of each other between 11pm and 2am.
The second man was thankfully found on the pier within minutes of the call being received.
He was taken to hospital by the Ambulance Service.
Police also dealt with a suicidal woman last night.
Now there are calls for proper resources to be put in place to deal with people who have mental health issues. Police say these incidents are ‘crippling’ the emergency services.
“I cannot highlight mental health often enough, yet it feels like we are doing nothing more than treating stab wounds with sticking plasters!
“As a society, we are struggling to deal with this issue and it is crippling the already stretched emergency services
“We urgently need a properly resourced and funded approach to this mounting problem,” said a police spokesperson.
