A startling video has appeared online showing teenagers allegedly throwing fireworks at a youth club in Craigavon.
Police are now warning young people of the dangers of handling what are essentially, explosives following the clip, which was posted on Friday.
“The fact that we’ve not had horrendous injuries so far this year is nothing short of a miracle. These things are dangerous, cheap imports which can cause horrific damage to a child,” said a police spokesperson.
And they are urging parents to be alert to what their children are doing.
“We’ve warned about fireworks, we’ve asked you to step up and make sure you know what your kids are doing. These aren’t sparklers, they aren’t kids’ toys. They’re explosives,” said the PSNI spokesperson.
“Don’t complain that we didn’t warn you when you get a knock on your door from us telling you your child is lying in hospital with, at best, life changing injuries,” added the spokesperson.
The police also want people to pass on information in relation to fireworks sellers.
“These things are dangerous, cheap imports which can cause horrific damage to a child.
If you know who is selling them, let us know. Send us a PM telling us WHO, WHERE they keep them, HOW they’re distributing them. We’ll do the rest, and your name goes nowhere.
“This isn’t about ruining people’s fun- there are official fireworks displays every year which are awesome. These things though – these will kill, unless YOU as a parent steps up with keeping your kids in line.”
That’s great fun isn’t it? Firing fireworks towards Tullygally youth club!
