A vulnerable man was scammed into purchasing iTunes gift cards in Tesco Antrim, according to police.
It’s one of a number of reports police have received in recent days concerning frauds and attempted frauds via the Internet and email contact.
“We are appealing for any information in aiding to identify a vulnerable male. We believe this male was scammed into purchasing iTunes gift cards in Tesco Antrim on Monday, November 19.
“The male was approximately 25-year-old and went there via bicycle. Any info please contact 101 quoting reference number 956 of 19/11/2018,” said a police spokesperson.
Police said they have also received a report of a scam via Instagram whereby the suspect threatened the recipient if they did not send money.
“These types of scams are targeted at vulnerable people who may transfer the money in order to get rid of the messages etc.
“Please make your friends, family aware of these incidents and look out for each other online,” said a police spokesperson.
