Police are treating the shooting of a 29-year-old woman in Derry/Londonderry as a terrorist incident.
Dissident Republicans are being blamed for the shooting which happened during rioting following police searches in the Creggan area on Thursday night.
Petrol bombs were thrown at police Land Rovers during the trouble.
Assistant Chief Constable Mark Hamilton said the police were ‘treating the shooting as a terrorist incident’ and a murder inquiry has now been launched.
Sinn Féin deputy leader Michelle O’Neill said she was ‘shocked and saddened at the tragic news.’
”I unreservedly condemn those responsible for killing this young woman,” she said.
Robin Swann, leader of the Ulster Unionist Party, said news of the death was ‘devastating.’
He tweeted: “A precious life lost, we can’t go back to this nor can we allow others to drag us back.”
