A woman and her young child escaped injury in a suspected arson attack at a house in Ballysillan Avenue early yesterday morning (Saturday, September 8).
A fire started in the garden of the house and then spread to the side of the property, causing smoke damage. Damage was also caused to a nearby electric box and gable wall.
Police in North Belfast are appealing for information following the incident.
Inspector Murphy said the fire broke out around 6:05am.
“It is understand a female resident and her young child were inside the property, but were not injured.
“Enquiries are continuing but the fire is being treated as deliberate.
“We are appealing to anyone with any information regarding the incident or who saw anything suspicious in the area to contact police on 101 quoting reference number 299 8/9/18. Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime,” he added.
