World War 1 grenade found in Larne

A World War I grenade has been discovered during building work in the vicinity of Circular Road, Larne, this morning, Monday, 24 August.

The road was closed from Circular Road roundabout through to the Curran Road but has now reopened.


Inspector Riddell said police have been working to clear the area.

“I appreciate this will cause disruption in the area for those impacted, however, keeping people safe is of paramount importance and we will not take any risks.

“In the meantime, I want to thank those affected for their patience as we work to clear the area,” he added in an earlier statement.
