Engineer killed in tree fall at Slieve Gullion Forest Park

An engineer has died after a tree fell on him in Co Armagh as the province was hit by Storm Ali.

The man, believed to be in his 20s, was working as a contractor for NI Water. His colleague was also hurt in the incident which occurred near the entrance to Slieve Gullion Forest Park in Co Armagh.

The Health and Safety said it is aware of the incident.

Across the province, around 60 roads were closed and over 90,000 homes affected by power cuts as winds raged.

Northern Ireland Electricity Networks says it continues to face challenging conditions. Over 50,000 customers have had their power restored, but NIE says more faults could develop as the strong winds continue.

Work is ongoing to remove debris from affected roads.
